As part of the Quaich Tour in 2017 we are happy to announce a triple crown of events sponsored by ReBoot Disc Golf, Ace Adventures and Loch Tay Highland Lodges. This is a winner take all Triple Crown, a player must win all three tournaments in their division to collect the Grand prize. More details to follow.
Today we celebrate our first 'National disc Golf Day' so it seemed only fitting to try and encapsulate the last few years in an attempt to celebrate what we have accomplished as a disc golf community. I enjoy tremendously introducing new people from all walks of life to disc golf, my favorite is when after about 5 holes one of the group will always state " hey, this is just like golf". Personally I must admit my arm is hanging like a cooked noodle due to all the golf I've played in just the last few weeks. At our little disc golf course in Dunbar we've entertained disc golfers from Finland, Sweden, California, a group on tour from the Netherlands as well as a few from each coast of Canada. Our sport is alive and well on a global scale and as players travel and vacation here they are learning to bring their discs because the word is getting out about the quality of courses
Our disc golf journey all started with an idea for a Triple Crown event which involved courses in Dunbar and Glasgow. This idea led to the formation of the Quaich Tour which quickly spread from 6 events in 2013 to what is now a 13 stop Tour with 154 unique players to date enjoying the best disc golf courses in Scotland with two events to go. (We also had a guest appearance by The Bristol Open in 2016) Our events have included so far three tournaments to benefit local Charities ensuring our sport assists the local community food banks and MFR Cash 4 Kids. We have hosted variety of events including Match play, University Team, Doubles, Stroke play, on 9,18 & 27 hole disc golf courses and one object course :) (which all took us back to the beginning) We have been a part of the European Tour for two years running bringing the best disc golfers from all across the globe to compete in Scotland, which last year included 16 Scottish players!! For a brief time we've seen local Pro players top the UK ratings list and place well earning cash at top European events. At a grass roots level there has been additional leagues and local events to allow recreational players enjoy disc golf with their families and friends in a not-so-competitive environment. We have hosted numerous demonstrations from Moray to the Borders and been featured in a National newspaper as a tool to fight childhood obesity. We have witnessed membership and volunteer efforts reach new heights which has a lovely knock on affect for all of us, as well as the brilliant after glow of being listed as #24 in the top 100 things to do with kids in a popular National magazine. Let's see where one more year will bring us. We have come a long way to evolve to a point that I hope we can all proudly say will not only mark the beginning of The Scottish Disc Golf Association in 2017 but see unparalleled growth in our sport. Cheers
The Raspberry Team Jam was held today at Bluebell Woods disc golf course, Foxlake Adventures, Dunbar Scotland. In all 22 players formed five teams for the friendly one round event. We played two divisions Singles and Alternate shot doubles. Spot prize winners: Angus - Shusterick 3x PA3-CTP Ed - Thistly Cross T-shirt - Long Putt Rory C - Vibram Water Bottle - Long Putt Thanks to B.U.D.E. the Bankfoot Used Disc Golf Emporium for their gracious donation. It was great to see everyone Thank You so much for coming out today we look forward to seeing you again soon. I have to be the luckiest person on the the global trek of this Vibram Ascent world tour disc. Words cannot describe the gratitude to Mr.Noriaki Wakabayashi of Japan for the gift of an O-Lace and Mini portrait discs. Not only will I be paying such generosity forward but retroactively as well, how can I not? The traveling Ascent arrived last week and I had the opportunity to use it during league on Wednesday, sadly no Ace but I did get a metal hit on Hole 7. I think this disc represents a group of folks that exemplify our sport and I am happy to have had the privilege to scribe my name on it. When this disc returns to its home I would really like to see a map of its travels. Beannachd leat What a day in Glasgow at Rosshall Disc Golf Park for the 3rd annual Rosshall Derby. On the course today were 13 players that represented Scottish disc golf well with Edinburgh, Stirling, Morayshire, St Andrews and Crookston all in the draw. We teed off before 10am to play 18 holes before doing it again after a quick lunch. We flipped discs for groups and set out on the course for the first round. The course is overgrown but playing well for the most part, it's a short course with plenty of earned birdie opportunities. John Bruce (Stirling) set the bar with a blistering 48, followed by Jack Lynch (St Andrews) and Seamus Scanlon (Dunbar) with a 54 and Graham Robbie (Paisley) 57. In the second round the forecasted 20 mph wind never developed and the sky cleared revealing a very pleasant afternoon. John followed his morning success with 6 more birdies and a bogie which was needed to fend off a charging Jack L. Who birdied the first 4 holes before succumbing to hole 5 twice with a bogie and double bogie for a 51. Another hot round was carded by Aaron Cotnoir (St Andrews) posting a 50 to tie for third. It was great to see everyone today and I look forward to seeing you all again. MPO 1. John Bruce - Westside Disc Bag, Bt Shield Putter 2. Jack Lynch - 3x Shusterick PA3 350g 3. Aaron Cotnoir 3.
